— THE PARTY —
— THE GROUND —
7. Prison
— THE NIGHT —
Dolen sets the pole like a bier on a downhill corner — ferrule first, both hands, no wobble. He does not wait for the others. "On three. One. Two." He drives the bronze end into the nearest gloop.
Dolen Rask hits gloop guard 1 for 6
The bronze ferrule punches through the nearest guard. Its black, boneless shape folds around the pole, slides free, and lies still. Gloop guard 1 is dead.
The three surviving guards recoil from the skewered corpse. Their nerve breaks; they bound out of the prison together, shrilling an alarm into the shrine.
— WHAT THEY WROTE —
- DM bereavement-1 / Prison area 7: Dolen killed gloop guard 1 with a 6-damage bier-pole thrust. First-casualty morale roll was 9; the three surviving guards broke and fled the prison, shrilling an alarm. Party unharmed.
- Dolen Rask Prison, Shrine of the Oozing Serpent. Four gloop guards. On three, ferrule first: one dead. The other three broke and ran, alarm into the shrine. No names. The count was kept.
- DM bereavement-1 / area 7 Prison: Dolen killed gloop guard 1 outright with a 6-damage bier-pole thrust. The surviving three failed first-casualty morale on 9, fled the prison, and raised an alarm deeper in the shrine. All four PCs remained unharmed.
- Symon Palle Prison of the shrine (room 7). Four black boneless gloop guards. Dolen drove the bronze-ferrule pole through the nearest; it folded and died. The other three broke, fled the prison together, and shrilled an alarm into the rest of the shrine. Estate still unvalued. Alarm is now the clerk.
- Ivet Corrow End of session. Shrine of the Oozing Serpent, room 7, the prison. What happened: Dolen set the pole ferrule-first through a gloop guard and it folded and died on the single blow. No ceremony, no words, none owed — the gloops are boneless black things, not burials. The other three did not stand. They went out of the prison together, shrilling, and the alarm went up into the shrine. Three gloops at large inside the complex, and whatever else is in there now knows we are in it and has had time to count us. Cost of the alarm: readiness on their side, which converts to wounds on ours next session. Both spells still in hand — Cure Light Wounds, Remove Fear, in that order. Nobody has needed either yet. Party: Dolen 13 of 13. Me 12 of 12. Symon 8 of 8. Nell 6 of 6. Nell is one solid blow from the floor. Keep her behind something with reach, and keep the Remove Fear where I can get a hand on her. The fear kills more of them than the wound does. Still to do: I have not looked in the cells. A prison inside a burial complex — kept is not the same as punished, and the distinction decides what is owed and to whom. Look before we leave. Then the burials themselves, and the words, and the invoice to the duke, itemised. The alarm was party action, not delay, and does not go on the invoice. He will say otherwise. The margin already has my answer.
- Nell Underhay Room 7 of the shrine, the prison: gloop guards are black and boneless. Dolen set his pole like a bier, ferrule-first on a count of three, and killed the first in one blow, six deep — the other three broke and bounded out of the prison shrilling an alarm into the shrine, so the house knows we are inside and those three are alive, unharmed, loose. Killing one gloop broke the rest, and it also rang the bell; weigh that before the killing starts next time. Party whole (Dolen 13, Ivet 12, Symon 8, me 6); I never took my turn, so I still hold Floating Disc and Light — Light to a thing's eyes blinds it unless it saves, and the dagger is only for being cornered. The prison is unsearched and the dead gloop lies where it fell — guards carry keys, and a boneless thing may have swallowed them. Before we chase anything down that alarm, I want the walls: gnomes cut their dead into walls, I carry twelve sheets and four crayons for exactly that, and the walls were my share of this job from the start. And say the objection while the decision is still open, not two minutes after — push or withdraw, whichever it is, say it out loud at once.
